Lee LeFever is a born communicator and has followed that passion throughout his career. After earning a Masters in Health Administration in 1998, he moved to Seattle and worked in the healthcare data industry. Within two years, he created the company’s first online community program and his dreams of online communication started to become true. It was during this time that he met Sachi, who would become his wife and business partner.
In 2003, Lee's passion for online communication led him to form Common Craft as a consulting practice focused on online communities. This consulting and the rise of YouTube prompted Lee and Sachi to start producing videos that explained technology and particularly social media. These online “explainer” videos were among the first of a popular trend and became the focus of Common Craft.
Through creating a library of educational videos and working with brands like LEGO, Google, Intel and Ford, Common Craft was able to win multiple awards and earn over 50 million online views. This success led Lee to write The Art of Explanation (Wiley, 2012), which has been translated into eight languages. Lee is also a popular keynote speaker on the subject of explanation skills.
Today, Common Craft produces educational guides, ready-made videos and visuals that are used by educators in over 50 countries. Lee and Sachi remain Common Craft’s only employees and live in Seattle, where they and their two dogs love the rain.
